8th Annual Air Show

Date: August 12, 2006

Gates open at 8 a.m. and close approximately 4:00 p.m.

Admissions is $5.00 per car.

Great music and entertainment all day. With giveaways all day as well.

Performers:

  1. Charlie Kulp - aka "The Flying Farmer" has demonstrated his inability to fly over 700 air shows in the past 29 years. A good sense of humor and a little yellow plane have helped the bumbling farmer create thrills and laughter for thousands of air-show spectators. He flies a standard 65 hp Piper J-3 Cub, unchanged since its manufacture in 1946. Charlie celebrates 60years of flying in the year aviation celebrates 100 years of flying. He has performed from Canada to Florida and as far west as Oshkosk, WI. Charlie has entertained at air shows in Great Britain. Charlie was inducted into the Virginia Aviation Hall of Fame on November 8, 1997. This marks Charlie's 6th year performing at Tazewell.
  2. Charles Schwenker of Cascade Aerobatics will be flying his exciting Extra 300. Charles has been on the air show circuit many years with a Pits S-1 and his Extra 300. His many exciting airobatic maneuvers will be sue to be a crowd pleaser. This will be Charles' third performance at Tazewell. He will be performing two routines.
  3. The Hardee's Air Show Team by Flights Unlimited Inc. will be performing for the second year at Tazewell. The team operates radio-controlled quarter scale aircraft. The team of pilots has been performing for many years along the east coast. This year they will be performing aerobatic demonstrations, using the buddy box for the kids, and the very popular "FLYING LAWNMOWER." The Flying Lawnmower is something to see. Whoever thought that a lawnmower could fly, this will actually blow your mind. The spectators are sure to be impressed with this performance. This year marks the third year that Flight's Unlimited has performed at the Tazewell County Airport Show.
  4. SKY DIVING - Mike Vordo will provide a sky diving for the event. The skydivers will talk with the crowd explaining what he will be doing and then proceed to 5000 feet above the ground level where they will exit the plane and free fall. After deploying the chute, they will land in the field near the crown. This will be Mike's second year performing for us.
  5. Bob Essell Air Shows will provide a wing-walking act. This will be an exciting event to watch. Can you just imagine riding an airplane while standing on the wings? This Bob's first performance at the Tazewell County Airport Air Show.
  6. Switft Magic Aerobatic TeamThe Swift Magic Aerobatic Team will be making their debut in Tazewell County. The Swifts are small aerobatic aircraft that perform many maneuvers that a lot of the large fighter jets perform. This will be a wonderful addition to the event.
  7. Airplane rides will be provided for the day, there will be rides offered in Cessna 172's, and also rides offered in a Stearman. The Stearman is an open cockpit aircraft that has a huge radial engine. A beautiful aircraft.
  8. Helicopter rides will be offered.
  9. Free Fun and excitement for the kids. Fun Tyme Amusement will be on site with a bounce castle and will allow children to jump in the castle for no charge.
  10. All sores of static displays. Aircraft of all kinds will be available to view. The Sate of Virginia will have one of their aircraft available for the crowd to view.
  11. Many vendors will provide food. No need to leave the site to have lunch.
